July Job List
• Water deeply and regularly – in the morning or evening to reduce evaporation
• Water containers regularly if dry, use saucers beneath & use rain water when possible
• Harvest peas, beans, courgettes, potatoes (earlies) onions and garlic
• Keep tying in tomatoes and pinching-out side shoots
• Keep picking courgettes before they become marrows!
• Feed tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers weekly
• Shade greenhouse during very hot weather
• Watch for pests such as red spider mite
• Deadhead roses
• Take softwood cutting of shrubs – fuchsia, pelargoniums and lavender
• Lift and store early flowering bulbs once the foliage has died back
• Harvest soft fruits; strawberries, raspberries and currants
• Summer prune apple and pears
• Remove pond weed and top up water levels – remember to leave at the side of the pond for 30mins to let any critters climb back in!
• Keep bird baths topped up
• Keep dead-heading bedding & perennials to prolong flowering
• Make time to sit out and enjoy your garden!
