June Job List

• Pinch out side shoots & tie in cordon-grown Tomato plants
• Sow herbs such as Basil and Coriander every few weeks in summer
• Harvest first early potatoes and early lettuce, radish, spinach and peas
• Plant out courgettes, squash, peppers
• Ventilate greenhouses well to prevent overheating.
• Keep on top of watering and feeding- especially new plantings and plants in containers.
• Keep on top of weeding! Mulch to retain moisture and supress weeds
• Succession sow salads every 2-3 weeks.
• Watch for pests such as caterpillars!
• Deadhead roses and bedding plants to encourage new growth.
• Continue to tie in climbers; sweet peas, clematis and roses.
• Lift and divide overcrowded spring bulbs once the foliage has died back
• Feed hanging baskets weekly
• Thin fruits on apples, pears and plum tress to improve fruit size
• Harvest strawberries
• Tie in new growth on raspberries and blackberries
• Water fruit planst during dry spells
• Avoid where possible using chemicals that harm pollinators
• Leave some seed heads on plants for insects.
• Prune spring-flowering shrubs straight after flowering such as Deutzia, Weigela and Philadelphus
